Trevor I know what you're like with your acerbic comments but Sakho is a flash in the pan that is injured or temperamental and flaky. He could have been a decent striker but he isn't as he hasn't stood the test of time.

In some respects we have got away with not having proper regular strikers this past season. We are again faced with the same problem and the owners know what is needed. There are no excuses it's up to them to act accordingly.

he has never managed in the PL and was sacked by BL after finishing 12th our of 18 teams in a league less competitive than ours. how exactly you can claim he would be a step is is baffling. how much german football do you watch?

So, after not being able to make ONE big signing since they took 9ver, we are going to make 3 or 4 in one summer after an atrocious season on and off the pitch and becoming a public laughing stock?

I'd love us to overtake Spurs to shut their self-superior fans up but even with moving to Wembley, I can't see it unless they lose Pochettino.
I personally don't see how Bilic staying is the cheap option either, there aren't many managers out there that I'd take other than Eddie Howe and it's pretty clear, from our previous flirtations with him, that he's not really interested.
It does annoy me that the board are so public about transfer targets which flatter to deceive but I live in hope based on recent successes with Payet/Lanzini. On the other hand, I think at the time the signings of Feghouli, Tore and Nordveidt were pretty astute given their previous experience and form. The mood on here pre-season was also pretty positive until we saw what dross they started like/continued to be in the case of Tore. I thought singing Ayew, Fonte & Snodgrass was desperate, especially given the fees, but hope they will continue to improve. We should probably cut our losses with Snodgrass if we can, I haven't seen him contribute anything positive since he arrived but again, if he stays, I wish him well.
Sign a couple of decent strikers, a right back and perhaps a change of guard in the GK department and we have a great chance of progressing next season. It's been said many times on here before, let's hope the board know what needs to happen, work diligently on it and keep quiet about it until it does. COYI.

Agreed...3 or 4 players of genuine proven quality will cost a lot of money...which leads us back to quality on its last legs, or punts on those on the way up.
What we must not do is target 26-29 year olds who have never been quite good enough and have hit their ceiling already at clubs of similar stature to ours. Feghouli, Nordveidt, Snodgrass and Ayew being classic examples of that.
Calleri was the right kind of punt. It didn't work out but was a similar punt to Lanzini. No problem with that kind of deal. Fernandes as an example of something similar looks like working out well.
